In honor of this achievement, you are eligible to exhibit at least one (1) work in this year's Grant and Merit Scholarship Exhibition, which will take place in the League's Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery (215 W. 57 Street, New York, NY 10019). Eligibility:
- Recipient of a grant or merit scholarship at the Art Students League in 2024
Submission Requirements:
- The work should be a recent work, preferably in the past year while studying at the League.
- Image file should be jpeg or tiff in format, at least 2000 pixels on the longest side, and 300dpi. (if lower resolution you may not be considered for printed promotional materials).
- The image .jpg files must be named in the following format: Last Name_First Name_Title.jpg Example: Brown_Jess_Untitled.jpg. If the file is not re-named before you upload it, we have no way to match the images to your application!
- Artists are responsible for the drop-off and pick-up of the artwork. All works are to be delivered and picked up from Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery, 215 W 57th Street
- All artwork must be delivered ready for installation. This means that any 2D works must be ready to hang with D-rings and wire or cleat, and sculptures must be delivered in full. Works on paper must be framed using plexiglass only (no glass). The Gallery reserves the right to turn away any works not delivered ready for installation.
- All artwork must be delivered with proper packing and works will be returned in the packing they are delivered in. If the work is delivered unpacked, it will be returned in the same way.
- Artists must behave in compliance with the Art Students League's code of conduct.
- Works submitted must fit within a size limit of 45 in. on the longest side.
- While there are 10 submission slots per application, the Gallery is typically limited to showing one work by each artist.
- Artwork must be delivered and picked up within the timeline outlined above. Failure to meet deadlines means the Gallery cannot guarantee participation.
- The Gallery cannot guarantee the safety of any works left past the final pick-up date.
- Sculptures must be delivered and retrieved during the designated drop off and pick up dates.

Statement of Intent and C.V.
A Statement of Intent describes your reason for pursuing a Certificate of Completion with the Art Students League. You are encouraged to include information about yourself, your objectives, and your interests that may not be immediately apparent from a review of your portfolio and application. A Curriculum Vitae or résumé details your art-related activities and accomplishments.
Artwork Portfolio
Online artwork submission of 10 jpeg images is required. It is advised that applicants select recent work relevant to their chosen area of concentration. Two optional submissions can be made for video or audio works.
Transcripts
- Minimum educational level completion: Secondary school diploma or equivalent. A post-secondary degree or diploma is not required.
- Applicants to the four-year Certificate Program must demonstrate a minimum of one academic year (two semesters, or equivalent) of previous fine arts study in studio classes for drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking or mixed media.
- Applicants to the two-year Certificate Program must demonstrate a minimum of two academic school years (four semesters) of study from a post-secondary fine arts program.
- An Official Transcript is required to show your previous fine arts studies. A transcript from the Art Students League is acceptable. Transcripts from other institutions must be sent by mail to the Art Students League of New York, 215 W 57th Street, New York, NY 10019, Attn: Thomas Tacik; or by electronic service to: tom@artstudentsleague.org.
Recommendations
Provide two (2) to three (3) letters of recommendation from individuals who are familiar with your development as an artist. Recommenders should email tom@artstudentsleague.org or send letters by mail to the Art Students League of New York, 215 W 57th Street, New York, NY 10019, Attn: Thomas Tacik.
Application Fee
A non-refundable application fee of $50 is due upon submission.
International Student Language Proficiency
If you are an international student, a good working knowledge of English is required. TOEFL scores are not required. English proficiency is determined through teleconference or in-person meeting.

Applying to the Certificate Program
Fall 2025 Application Deadlines:
- The Fall 2025 Semester begins September 2, 2025.
- Domestic 2-Year and 4-Year (non-F-1) Certificate Program candidates may submit the application by July 15, 2025.
- International students who must obtain the Form I-20, Certificate of Eligibility and apply for the F-1 visa are advised to submit this application by May 15, 2025, to begin the program in Fall 2025.
- International students at other institutions who plan to transfer to the Art Students League or new students who will be applying for the F-1 visa should contact the International & Certificate Student Services office as soon as possible by email: tom@artstudentsleague.org

Aspiring Artist Program:
The Aspiring Artist Scholarship program is a comprehensive professional-level oil painting program taught by a master artist for promising young artists still attending high school. Applicants who are accepted should make a full commitment in attending the program weekly for 8 months.
PROGRAM DATES: October 19th, 2025 - May 17th, 2026 Sundays from 1:00-4:45 pm (No class Dec. 21st-Jan. 18th)
DEADLINE TO SUBMIT APPLICATION: Monday September 30th, 2025
NO FEES: Tuition is free and art supplies are included.
ELIGIBILITY: Open to junior and senior high school visual artists working in drawing or painting.
You will need to have the following information ready to complete this application:
•Statement of Artistic Intent (no more than 150 words)
•5 JPG images of your artwork The original pieces need to be handcrafted. Photographs and pieces done using digital software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch or Procreate) will not be accepted.
